The NP104X905BA603 is an operator controlled keyboard manufactured by General Electric. The screen files generated by the OptiSCREEN program are stored in OIT, a smart terminal. In addition, BASIC programs created by the OptiBASIC utility can be stored and run on OIT using OptiBASIC. OIT is ideal for use on the factory floor as it meets NEMA 4 and NEMA 12 requirements. OIT uses ANSI X3.64, VT-100, or VT-52 escape sequences during operation. This means that many terminals, such as the DEC VT-100 and VT-220, also use these escape sequences and can be replaced with OIT.

An IBM-compatible PC, color monitor, keyboard, cursor positioning tool (touch screen and/or trackball or mouse) and printer make up the main operating interface of the Mark V system.

Devices can be started or stopped, loaded or unloaded, alarms managed and logged, and device operation monitored using commands sent through the operator interface. The operator interface does not protect or control equipment, with the exception of factory load control options.

By using coaxial cable and ARCNET local Area Network (LAN) communication, the operator interface is connected to one or more Mark V panels. The stage link refers to the connection between the Mark V control panel and the operator interface.

To accommodate the long distances between the operator interface computer and the turbine control panel, in some cases the stage link may include fiber optic cables and Repeaters. Using programs installed on the interface computer, the operator interface can also be used to configure or modify the Mark V's control, protection, monitoring and recording functions. These features can only be modified or configured using a password.

The interface has options for different display sizes, color printers, laser printers, and audible alarm speakers.

The host computer (PLC) will provide dynamic (changing) data to the OIT, which will then be displayed on the screen in a user-programmed screen format. This format is generated using the OptiSCREEN editor and generally changes less frequently than dynamic data from the PLC. By pressing keys on the keyboard, the operator can enter data and command the PLC to take action.
