The GE Fanuc IC693BEM321 I/O Link Master Module card, as the name suggests, is a serial interface card that connects inputs received from 16 slave modules to the GE Fanuc Series 90-30 PLC system, acting as a gateway between these slave modules and the system cpu. A single GE Fanuc IC693BEM321 I/O link master module card can receive up to 1K(1024) of digital input and produce 1K of digital output to send a command response to a field actuator. The configuration of the interface card is done via a handheld GE Fanuc programmer or using proprietary software.

As with most of GE Fanuc's accessory modules, the IC693BEM321 I/O link master module card can be inserted into any available slot in the PLC of the GE Fanuc Series 90-30 and 90-70 product lines. Up to six master modules can be inserted into the GE Fanuc PLC baseboard at the same time, each representing an independent I/O link to control a specific sector or section. The reset button in the module will open and close the entire link when pressed, and it is used to clear any faults present in the system.
