The 8502-BI-DP Bus Interface Module (BIM) provides a communication link between the 8000 Series I/O module and the Profibus-DP host. It collects data at high speeds from modules and LAN operation speeds of up to 6 Mbaud, enabling the host to respond quickly to conditions during control.

The BIM collects I/O module data and provides it to the host as required. It's a slave to the Profibus mainframe. In addition to the cyclic data exchange required to read input data and write output data, BIM also supports Profibus extended diagnostics for status information. It also supports a number of special features that have been implemented to allow high integrity system operation and field maintenance.

The 8502 supports parameterization from the Profibus host. This is configured on a "per module" basis, that is, all channels on a single module carry the same configuration. Create the configuration in the Profibus configurator using the details provided in the GSD file.

This approach is fast and enables you to build configurations based on "logical" modules that represent physical modules. Modules are added to the configuration one at a time and parameters are selected to apply to all channels of the module.

Logic modules can be selected to provide HART states and process variables in Profibus-DP loop input telegrams. In addition, HART "mailboxes" can be used for applications that require access to many HART variables. The technique collects the required HART variables; Save space for telegrams, which sometimes need to process too much data. This method is only available when parameterization is used.

At the start of the session, the configuration is passed down from the Profibus host to the BIM. If the system restarts after being stopped, the configuration file is transferred to the BIM again.
