The GE/Bentley Nevada 3500/22M Series Transient Data Interface (TDI) is the mechanical management software for the interface between the 3500 monitoring system and the Bentley Nevada System 1. TDI combines the capabilities of 3500/20 rack interface modules with the data collection capabilities of communication processors such as TDXnet.
The TDI runs in a RIM slot in the 3500 rack with M-series monitors (3500/40m, 3500/42m, etc.) to continuously collect steady-state and transient waveform data and pass this data to the host software over an Ethernet link. Static data capture is standard with TDI, but using an optional channel-enabled disk also allows capturing dynamic or transient data. In addition to integrating communications processor capabilities in 3500 racks, the TDI improves on previous communications processors in several ways.
The TDI provides certain functions common to the entire rack. However, the TDI is not part of the critical monitoring path and has no impact on the normal operation of the entire monitoring system. Each rack requires one TDI or RIM. The TDI occupies only one slot in the rack and is always located in the Slo t 1 (next to the power supply).
For triple modular redundancy (TMR) applications, the 3500 system requires the TMR version of TDI. In addition to all standard TDI functions, TMR TDI also performs "monitor channel comparison." 3500 TMR configuration performs monitoring voting using the Settings specified in Monitoring options. In this way, TMR TDI continuously compares the output of three (3) redundant monitors. If TMR detects that the information in one of the monitors is no longer equivalent to the remaining two monitors (within the configured percentage), it flags the monitor as an error and puts the event in the system event list.
