3500 TDI(Transient Data Interface) is the interface between 3500 monitoring systems and GE's system 1* machine management software. The TDI combines the data collection capabilities of 3500/20 rack interface modules (RIM) with communications processors such as TDXnet. Together with the M Series, the TDI runs monitors (3500/40m, 3500/42m, etc.) in the RIM slot of the 3500 rack to continuously collect steady-state and transient waveform data and pass this data over the Ethernet link to the host software (see the Compatibility section at the end of this document). Static data capture is standard for TDI, but using an optional channel-enabled disk will allow TDI to capture dynamic or transient data. Compared to previous communications, TDI has improved on several aspects and integrated communication processor capabilities into 3,500 units.

The vibration monitor is calibrated using a motor driven tilting disc. A rocker arm retainer on the disc holds the eddy current probe in place. By adjusting the retainer and probe to the appropriate position, the mechanical vibration size can be achieved to the desired value. The mechanical vibration is measured by a dial micrometer in a calibration device (no oscilloscope required).

The readings of the vibration monitor can be compared with the known output of the mechanical vibration signal (i.e. the reading taken by the dial meter). The TK-3E measured mechanical vibration signals ranging from 50 to 254 μm (2 to 10 mils) peak-peak values.
